About

Crafting joy from the shores of Georgian Bay.

I grew up in the small cross-roads-community of Vasey, Ontario. Middle-child, wife, proud Auntie, Leo, Enneagram 6, museum nerd, introvert — that probably says a lot. Witty and sarcastic, but not immune to giggle fits over goofy weirdness. Obsessed with British crime dramas and archaeology shows. Why are they so good?! Recovering perfectionist and people-pleaser with a powerful inner critic. Proponent of real-talk and well-placed curse words.

I value creativity, curiosity and learning. These days, I’m dedicated to living into these values and bringing more joy and happiness into my life.

Creative Influence.

Whether it was making cars out of Grandma’s excess(ive) supply of zucchini, whittling a stick with Grandpa, or making the décor for my wedding — arts and crafts and creative expression have always been a part of my life.

Making time to create, play and have fun through art helps me to relax, unwind, and unburden myself. The challenge of a project helps bring a sense of fulfillment and tenacity. It all helps to fill my cup back up.

The twists, turns and trials of the last decade were really hard at times, but arts and crafts has been there to ground, calm, soothe, and help me through it. It’s helpful, if not necessary, to my well-being, and a way I can give creatively to the world. I decided to officially embrace crafting and creating in the form of Julie McNevin (JM) Designs.

JM Designs would not, of course, be what it is today without the support of the people who cheer this venture on. I’m grateful for you – you know who you are. Thank you.

Location.

I am based out of Wasaga Beach, Ontario, located on the shores of Georgian Bay. The land upon which I live is the ancestral territory of the Wendat (Wyandot(te)/Wandat) and Tionontati (Petun). It is also Treaty 18 (Lake Simcoe-Nottawasaga Treaty) land belonging to Anishinaabek people.

I love the beauty of natural landscapes and feel really fortunate to have some of the best views so close to home. I think this affinity for nature is why I enjoy working with natural materials. Some pieces are even inspired by nature such as this coaster set, which is like the setting sun over the waves of Wasaga Beach or the mountains in Collingwood.
